The gospel song, “I Love to Praise Him,” epitomizes who and what I am today. I have been singing gospel music since I was five years old. My mother told me about the time she entered me into a Soupy Sales contest and I won. I was to sing the song “How Much Is that Doggy in The Window,” on his show. Well, I did sing the song, but as soon as I finished, I started belting out the hymnal, “Jesus Loves Me Yes I Know.” My mom says, she just smiled and shook her head.
Many years later, I performed in theater, with the late playwright and director, Ron Milner for three years. As years progressed, I performed with the Mandela Choir, under the direction of Bishop Edgar Vann. I later joined GMWA Detroit Chapter, in which I am still a member. I performed with the Detroit 300 Centennial Choir, performed with the Jimmy “JD” Dowell Faith Choir, performed in the Peace Choir, directed by Jimmy Dowell, for the Call to Arms of all nationalities and faiths, prayer vigil. This event was organized by Metropolitan Detroit area ministers, after the Twin Towers bombing in New York.
I also performed with the Fellowship Music and Arts Choir, under Bishop Andre Woods, and currently perform with The Second Chance Singers with Brotha Mike.
My educational background is that I worked in the field of education for thirty years and am now retired. In August, 2019, I was asked and accepted the position of Superintendent of the Vacation Bible School, for West Side Unity Church, where Dr. JoAnn Watson is the Pastor.
My wish is to one day, sing a duet with my GMWA Minister of Music, Michael Fletcher.
