Bring a friend. We are preparing for our trip to Greensboro.
The Detroit Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) is a ministry of singers from across Metro Detroit who love God, love music, and love serving. We are a professional choir with several recordings that span over decades. Below are some of our most frequently asked questions to help you know how to connect, what to wear, and when to show up.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
[NOTE: These questions are not just for the upcoming events.]

Q. Who can sing with the GMWA Detroit Mass Choir?
A. If you sang with the Women's Choir or have attended a rehearsal in the last 6 months, you are welcome to join us for the engagement.

Q. If I sang with the Women's Choir, can I sign up for the Chapter Member's Page on this website?
A. Yes
Q. What is the attire?
A. We have a few choices:
-
All Black (Standard): Ladies: 3/4 length sleeves, knee-length dresses or skirts, black or brown hose, black closed-in shoes. Men: black suit. (Accessories for men and women will be determined for each engagement.)
-
Dress for Ministry: Look like you are going to church—professional, modest, and ministry-ready. Ladies: no slacks.
Q. When are rehearsals?
A. Rehearsals are held the 2nd Friday of each month at 6:30 PM at Craig Memorial Tabernacle, 14201 Puritan, Detroit, MI
Q. Do I have to be a current GMWA Detroit Chapter member to participate?
A. We strongly encourage membership and participation in the Detroit Chapter. Our chapter is not backed by any organization, so we depend on the funds generated by annual chapter dues. This allows us to operate the chapter for the year. However, singers who have rehearsed with us in the last 6 months are welcome to sing.
Q. If I come in late what do I do?
A.When a person is teaching or ministering, it can be a huge distraction to have random walking. Please wait, and one of the directors will call for you to come and join the choir.
Q. What if I miss a rehearsal?
A. Please attend the next scheduled rehearsal. For most engagements, you must have attended at least one of the most recent rehearsals to minister with us. Things do happen, so feel free to talk to our Minister of Music or Administrator.
Q. How will I know when we are singing?
A. Engagements will be announced at rehearsal, reminders sent via text and shared on the Detroit Chapter’s platforms.

Q. If we are at an engagement and the choir is in the stand. When we finish can I just leave?
A. We are a professional choir. We ask that you would stay and we all leave the stand together under the direction of a director. However, if you must leave, please let one of the directors know and they will excuse you.
